King’s whip opposition at Michaelhouse festival

On Sunday the King’s Sevens rugby team went to Michaelhhouse for a festival.  We had prepared well and looked forward to test our skills against stronger opposition.

Our first game was against Merchiston Marauders, a very strong side.  They had a tough team and we played our best.  Merchiston scored one try and we scored three:  Thando scored one, and Thabo two.  We beat them 15-5.

Our second game was the toughest of the day.  Pelham saw us beat Merchiston and put into their team two huge players, number 13 and number 14 on their backs.  We did our ‘Thabani’-move and Thabo ran about the whole length of the field to score.  Then one of their big boys managed to break through and scored, but we held on and scored three more tries, one between the flags, 5 points, and the other two outside the middle flags, which counted for 3 each.  End result, King’s 16 – 5 Pelham.

The third game was against St Patrick’s from Kokstad.  Since they had smaller players our coach took Thabo and Thando off to make the game more even.  Our younger players grabbed the opportunity and we outscored them 25-5.  Sandile, the captain for that match scored one, and Teboho, Smily, Kamahelo and Njabulo the other four.

Our last game was a fairly easy one against Hillcrest, and we ran in five tries to their one.  Thabo, once again, scored three, and Thando two.  The end result, of the whole day, we managed 17 tries and 4 against us.
